Syabrubesi: Where It Begins
The drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi was already an adventure — winding mountain roads with sheer drops. But the moment we started walking, the noise faded. The Langtang Khola river became my soundtrack for the next 10 days.
Langtang Village: Rising from the Rubble
The 2015 earthquake buried the original Langtang village under a massive landslide. Walking through the memorial was devastating — and yet the rebuilt village next door was bustling with life. Children playing, yak cheese drying on rooftops, prayer wheels spinning. Resilience personified.
Kyanjin Gompa & the Glacier
The Buddhist monastery at Kyanjin was a place of profound stillness. I sat for an hour watching the Langtang Lirung glacier while monks prepared morning tea. Our guide told stories of the old village and the families who returned to rebuild. I felt small — in the most liberating way.
Coming Home Changed
Back in Tokyo, the city felt different. Not louder or faster — I felt quieter. Langtang taught me that healing isn't about escaping your life; it's about finding a place that mirrors your inner landscape and sitting with it.
